Catholics & Sexual Vice
For Catholics struggling with purity - especially with lust and the sins of the flesh -- this book may be for you.
The single best resource that I have found to help Catholics overcome sexual vices is called Clean of Heart by Rosemarie Scott. You should be able to find this book on Amazon.com.
From the books Introduction:
"This book is for practicing Catholics who ACCEPT all of the Church's teaching, yet still struggle with habitual sins against purity. Though this book focuses particularly on the solitary sins of pornography and masturbation, the priniciples it teaches, drawn from the timeless wisdom of the Church, can help one combat other sins of the flesh as well.
"If you are truly fed up with how vice is affecting your life, and are determined to stop, then this book is for you. These meditations will challenge you; they tell the unpleasant truth of what impurity does to your soul."
I would not recommend this book if you have any hangups on the Catholic Church or its teaching. If you are Catholic and fully surrendered to its teachings and want to overcome masturbation, pornography or any other sexual vice -- this book is for you. Be prepared to be challenged.
This book will ask you to:
1. "Get rid of all pornography from your home and cut off all access to it."
2. "Repent of sin and resolve to go to confession as soon as possible."
3. "Find an accountability partner who can pray for you and ask you daily how you are doing in your struggle against impurity."
4. Read a meditation twice a day that takes just a few minutes. It will ask you to pray, read scripture and the great writings of the saints.
THIS book is POWERFUL. If you have a sex addiction, expect to be challenged. It creates another level of awareness and helps create and foster a desire to please God. Again, this book is for practicing Catholics. I fully recommend that you have a confessor in the religious or lay community of the Church. You must be fully willing to accept the teachings of Mother Church. Ask God for the grace to accept the teachings of the Church. There is great peace in practicing self denial and offering up to God your suffering.
Peace and Strength to you!
